Issue or Question

An HR Partner receives an inbox task to enter a probation period for an internal hire staffing transaction.  The HR Partner receives the below error which prevents them from submitting the new dates for the probation period for the new job.  This issue is caused because the employee already has an active probation period, and likely is going though a second job change within 3 or 4 months.

Resolution or Answer

The HR Partner can resolve this issue on their own, with the following guidance.

  1. Determine the start date for the new probation period (on the new job).  This is usually the effective date (the job start date) of the staffing transaction.
  2. Identify the existing probation period dates by going to the Worker Profile >> Related Actions >> Job Change >> Manage Probation Periods.  Here you will see the listing of both active and ended probation periods.
  3. Identify the active probation period and note the end date.  The end date for the existing/active probation period will be greater than the desired start date of the probation period for the new job.
  4. Click the Edit button (for the active probation period record).  Here you will update the Probation End Date to be one day before the the desired start date of the new probation period.  The form also requires re-entering the Reason.
    • Example: if the new probation period is to start on September 9, you will update the end date of the existing probation period to be September 8.
  5. Return to the Inbox task, enter the new probation period details and Submit.
